Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) Consultations

Unfortunately, while a sizable part ofthe medical community continues to debate the validity of Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), many women around the world continue to suffer its devastating effects that wreak havoc in their lives without warning or explanation. Thankfully, PMDD was finally included in the latest version of the DSM-V, the psychological ‘bible’ published by the American Psychological Association (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition, 2015). This formal recognition will hopefully lead to increased research into this horrific disorder, while also opening a pathway to better recognition for holistic treatment methods and the further development of specific and more effective medical interventions.

Our Vision

To build a safe and supportive virtual space in which women may find strength, confidence, guidance, and resources to overcome the obstacles that PMDD presents in their lives.

Mission Statement:

To assist each client to strengthen their resiliency, skills, and confidence to successfully navigate their unique pathway to personal fulfilment.

Connections as a key component of fulfilment.

What is PMDD?

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), causing physical and emotional distress during the week or two leading up to your period.

What are the symptoms of PMDD?

In addition to the common PMS symptoms such as abdominal cramping and bloating, you may experience other indicators like:

What Causes PMDD?

Researchers are still trying to unearth the root cause of PMDD. Though some suspect that diminishing progesterone and estrogen levels shortly after ovulation and before menstruation may be responsible, others posit that serotonin a brain chemical integral in governing mood, appetite, and sleep patterns could also have a part to play since its concentration fluctuates throughout our menstrual cycles.

PMDD affects you by causing severe symptoms such as anxiety, depression and extreme irritability in addition to regular premenstrual syndrome (PMS) signs. Those terrible symptoms will begin to diminish a couple of days after your period starts, though can be so intense that they have an impact on your daily life.
